Lt Russell Maughan set a world speed record of 236.557 mph in a Curtiss R-6

1927

Aircraft Type Certificate No. 1 is issued by the Aeronautics Board of the Dept. of Commerce (later, the FAA) to the Buhl Airster C-3A, a three-place open biplane.  Another eight certificates are issued by the end of the year.

1951

Flight Safety Inc. begins operations at the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia Airport, New York with just one secretary and rented late night hours on a Link trainer simulator.

1954

An American Airlines DC-7 sets an official Los Angeles to New York transcontinental speed record for commercial aircraft by flying across the country in  6 hr 10 min.  (This was unofficially broken the following day by another American DC-7 that covered the distance in 5 hr 51 min.)

1960

ZPG-2 airship sets new record for standard-equipped flight at 95.5 hours on ASW patrol.
