At the end of the war, the P-40, P-39 and P-38 aircraft that had served the Sixth Air Force so well were very quickly withdrawn, and the initial, dedicated replacements were long-legged Republic P-47N Thunderbolts, such as 44-88993, a P-47N-15-RE, named "Dorie VI" assigned to the 43rd Fighter Squadron (SE), based briefly at "New" France Field. This aircraft, pictured here at Albrook Field, was lost at an Auxiliary Aerodrome at Pocri, Republic of Panama, October 22, 1946, while being flown by Ralph H. Finke. (R. L.
